Feral, Community & Barn Cat Program

Feral, Community & Barn Cats

TNR is the most humane and effective way to manage feral and stray cat populations. Cats are trapped, spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and ear-tipped before being returned to their colony, where a caretaker provides food and shelter. Friendly cats and kittens are placed for adoption when possible.

By preventing reproduction, TNR helps reduce colony size over time. It also minimizes nuisance behaviors like yowling, fighting, and spraying while improving the cats' health. With TNR, communities benefit from natural rodent control, and the cats live safer, healthier lives.

A feral cat is an untamed domestic cat. Stray cats are not considered feral unless you cannot touch or pick them up. Feral cats do not live in the house with human contact.

If you have a feral cat colony please call to arrange an appointment and to discuss fees (if any).

All feral cats will receive the following:

  • Spay/Neuter
  • Rabies Vaccine (if not current)
  • FVRCP Vaccine
  • Pain Medication (given at our clinic)
  • Ear Tip (a small ear tip is mandatory for all feral cats. This helps to identify the cat as spayed/neutered. Since these cats live in barns etc., this helps to easily identify them from a distance.

All feral cats must be brought in to the clinic in a humane trap.
